Braille Publishing House

The Braille Centre at BBI Vienna combines a library with a specialist production facility for Braille products. We produce books, assistive devices and tactile materials tailored to the specific needs of our users. In addition, we offer comprehensive advice on accessibility in everyday life, at work and in the inclusive design of websites or print products.

Assistive Devices

Assistive devices support blind and visually impaired people in their daily lives – at home, on the move or at work. Our range includes practical products for organisation, labelling, learning, play and road safety.

TAGS – Tactile Geometry Set

The Tactile Geometry Set (TAGS) contains two special compasses that make drawing a perfect circle much easier. All the drawing tools included can be used with pens (for sighted users) as well as with a stylus and a tactile drawing board. Tidy is half the battle, and this applies even more to people with visual impairments. That is why all individual parts and pins are safely stored in a box.

Tactile Clock

Our tactile clock helps children learn to tell the time on an analogue clock quickly. It is also useful for understanding angles. It has hands that turn easily and are linked via gears. This makes it possible to move the minute hand and feel what happens to the hour hand.
It is easy to read, featuring both high-contrast numerals and Braille labelling.

Number line

A number line is a simple yet important tool in mathematics for visualising numbers and illustrating their relationships to one another.
These appear in maths textbooks from Year 1 to Year 8. On our number line, values of natural numbers, decimal numbers and negative numbers can be placed at 100 positions using five tactile and colour-coded pegs. There are also insert strips with pre-defined scales such as 0 to 100, -50 to +50, and 0 to 1000.

Angle Set

It is not always easy to understand that the position of two lines in relation to one another is described by an angle. Our angle set helps with this. One version simply has two arms that can be secured with a wing nut, whilst the other features a measuring ring that allows you to determine the angle.

Tactile sketches

Whether to get an overview or to find your way around your immediate surroundings. Special graphic printers now make it possible to render images, graphics or tables in a tactile form. In this way, for example, websites can be presented in broad strokes so that you can get a rough idea of their visual design.
