Teaching and learning materials

Teaching and learning materials that are not included in school textbooks are produced by our department and made available via https://wiki.bbi.at. Educators can access this site via the secretariat of the Teaching Materials Centre. Available resources include prepared worksheets, learning materials on how to use specific programmes with screen readers and Braille displays, as well as tactile diagrams.

Tactile images

Adapting images, diagrams and graphics from mathematics, physics or biology requires a great deal of experience. We pass this expertise on to the BookAccess association so that graphics from school textbooks can be adapted into tactile prints. We create graphics that do not appear in school textbooks but are nonetheless important for teaching.

3D printing and laser cutting.

The Department for Inclusion and Teaching Materials works closely with our pupils and colleagues to produce tactile and high-contrast teaching materials that can be used by both learners who are blind and those with residual vision. These teaching materials, produced in-house, can be purchased at cost price from the Braille Centre’s sales office.

Maps and plans

In collaboration with Dr Bernhard Engelbrecht from Geosolution – and with the support of the Braille Centre – maps from the Austria Atlas, plans of several districts of Vienna, and building and overview plans are produced. The existing maps from the Austria Atlas can be ordered via the schoolbook campaign at the Teaching Materials Centre. Further information is available at the Braille Centre. European and world atlases are purchased from dzb-lesen and can also be ordered from BookAccess via the schoolbook scheme.
